The cost minimization and manpower deployment to SPC in a multistage manufacturing system

چکیده
This article proposes an algorithm for deploying manpower to a statistical process control (SPC) system that monitors a multistage manufacturing system. The algorithm minimizes the expected total cost by optimizing the amount of allocated manpower in the SPC system (referred to as an M-SPC system), as well as the sample sizes, sampling intervals and control limits of the control charts. It also takes into account the probability distribution of the random process shifts at each process stage. Numerical studies show that the M-SPC system can reduce the total cost by about 75 percent, on average, compared to the traditional SPC system. It is also found that, in most of the traditional SPC systems, the allocated amount of manpower is far less than needed. This implies that the total cost can be significantly reduced with more manpower. Furthermore, the M-SPC system can be utilized and understood as easily as the traditional SPC system by shop floor operators. Some useful guidelines are provided to aid users in allocating the appropriate amount of manpower to different

Distribution System Annual Cost Minimization Using Clean Type Technologies
One of the basic obstacles in the deployment of clean technologies such as wind turbines or PV modules is their intermittent nature due to dependency on the wind speed and solar radiance. In fact, the authors in this paper aim to investigate the effect of clean technologies such as wind turbines and PV modules on the total and individual costs of the distribution system. In order to model the u...

Design and manufacturing technology of high pressure multistage pumps which are commonly utilized in oil and gas industries, used to be imported from foreign companies. Due to international sanctions against I. R. Iran, it started to be designed and launched domestically. Nowadays all production lines including design, manufacturing and testing of these pumps have been performed by Iranian expe...
متن کاملYield and Cost Improvements in Multistage Production Systems
The aim of the paper is to address the issue of operational improvements in manufacturing firms, especially when yield losses result in a significant increase of the production cost. In a multistage production environment the firm must decide which production stage(s) should receive more “attention” in order to minimize the overall cost incurred from yield losses. Yield variability is a factor ...
متن کاملMulti-Objective Lead Time Control in Multistage Assembly Systems (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In this paper we develop a multi-objective model to optimally control the lead time of a multistage assembly system. The multistage assembly system is modeled as an open queueing network, whose service stations represent manufacturing or assembly operations. The arrival processes of the individual parts of the product, which should be assembled to each other in assembly stations, are assumed to...

In many real world assembly line systems which the work-piece is of large size more than one worker work on the same work-piece in each station. This type of assembly line is called multi-manned assembly line (MAL). In the classical multi-manned assembly line balancing problem (MALBP) the objective is to minimize the manpower needed to manufacture one product unit. Apart from the manpower, othe...
